Capsühl is the Social Light in-house range. Designed in New Zealand and built around the specific proportional and technical requirements of residential and architectural projects. Capsühl Linear is made to order in our Cambridge workshop. The wall light collection is designed here and manufactured offshore.
Most lighting is designed somewhere else, for a different market, and adapted for here. Capsühl was designed here, with NZ kitchens, ceiling heights, and renovation contexts in mind from the start. The range covers two distinct product types: Capsühl Linear, our custom architectural pendant made to order in Cambridge, and a wall light collection designed in New Zealand and manufactured offshore.
Capsühl Linear
Capsühl Linear is our flagship product and the most specified piece in the range. It's a custom linear pendant, made to the exact dimensions of your kitchen island or architectural space, in a choice of five finishes.
The reason it works well in kitchens comes down to proportion. A linear pendant scaled precisely to the island length gives a clean, uninterrupted line that reads as intentional rather than approximate. Two or three individual pendants over the same island can look right, but they require careful spacing decisions and introduce more visual complexity. A single well-proportioned linear removes that complexity entirely.
As a starting point, we recommend a Capsühl Linear length approximately 400mm less than your island length. For a 2400mm island, that's a 2000mm pendant. This proportion keeps the light visually connected to the island without appearing to overhang it. Hang height is typically 900mm above the benchtop.
Finishes
Capsühl Linear is available in five finishes, each suited to different kitchen palettes and architectural contexts.

The Capsühl Wall Light Collection
The Capsühl wall lights were the original part of the range, and the technology that defines them remains one of the more practically useful features in any lighting collection: Dim-to-Warm.
Most dimmable lights simply reduce in brightness as you lower them. Dim-to-Warm does something different. As the light dims, the colour temperature shifts warmer, moving from a clean task-appropriate white toward a soft amber tone. The effect mirrors how incandescent bulbs behave naturally, and it means one fitting can serve both purposes without needing to choose between them at installation.
- Bright and clear for tasks during the day
- Soft and warm for ambient evening light without changing the fitting
- No separate bulb or driver swap required
- Particularly well suited to bathrooms, hallways, and bedrooms where lighting needs shift across the day
The original Capsühl wall light and still one of the most consistently specified pieces in the range. Clean, minimal form with full Dim-to-Warm capability. Works well in hallways, bathrooms, and bedrooms where you need a single fitting to handle both task and ambient settings.
A pared-back companion to the Sol.En, with a slightly softer form. Works well in bedrooms and living spaces where you want Dim-to-Warm performance in a fitting with a lower visual profile.
A more expressive shape in the range, with a distinctive rounded form. The Pop works well as a bedside light or in a hallway where you want something with a little more character. Available from $149, it's also the most accessible entry point into the Capsühl wall light collection.
A compact, dual-purpose fitting that works as both a wall light and a ceiling mount. A practical choice for smaller rooms, stairwells, or spaces where ceiling and wall placement both need to be considered. The flexibility makes it a useful specification tool for complex projects.
A small, considered wall light with a quiet presence. The Bebe works well in pairs either side of a bed, in a hallway, or anywhere you want subtle layered light without the fitting drawing attention to itself.
Why We Made Our Own
Social Light stocks a curated range of international brands chosen for design integrity and material quality. Capsühl Linear exists because there was a gap that none of those brands filled: a custom linear pendant designed specifically for NZ kitchen island proportions, made here, with a lead time and specification process suited to residential renovations rather than commercial procurement.
It's also the only product in the Social Light range where we control every detail of the manufacturing. When a Capsühl Linear leaves the Cambridge workshop, we know exactly what it is and how it was made. The wall lights are designed with the same intention, but produced offshore to keep them accessible at a broader price point while still reflecting the Capsühl design brief.

Capsühl Linear is designed and made to order in Cambridge, New Zealand, at the Social Light workshop. Each piece is manufactured to the specific dimensions of your space, which is why lead times are 4 to 6 weeks from order.
What length Capsühl Linear do I need for my kitchen island?
As a starting guide, a length approximately 400mm less than your island gives a well-proportioned result. For a 2400mm island, that's a 2000mm pendant. For a 1800mm island, a 1400mm pendant works well. Custom lengths are available for any island dimension. Get in touch with your measurements and we can advise on the right size for your space.
How high should a Capsühl Linear hang above the benchtop?
We recommend approximately 900mm above the benchtop as a starting point. This provides good task lighting while keeping the pendant visually connected to the island. Custom drop lengths are available for higher ceilings where a standard drop would leave the pendant appearing to float too far above the surface.
What is Dim-to-Warm technology?
Dim-to-Warm is a lighting technology where the colour temperature shifts warmer as the light dims, moving from a clear white toward a soft amber tone. This mirrors the behaviour of incandescent bulbs and allows a single fitting to provide both functional task lighting at full brightness and warm ambient light at lower settings. All Capsühl wall lights include Dim-to-Warm as a standard feature.
How long does a Capsühl Linear take to make?
Each Capsühl Linear is made to order in New Zealand. Allow approximately 4 to 6 weeks from order to delivery. If you're working to a renovation schedule, it's worth ordering early. Get in touch with your measurements and we can confirm current lead times.
