Pendant Lights

Over a kitchen island or bench, pendants are typically installed 750–900mm above the surface.

Above a dining table, 700–850mm from the tabletop usually feels balanced.

These are guidelines, not rules. Ceiling height, pendant scale and the mood you’re creating all influence the final position. A well-placed pendant should feel intentional, not arbitrary.

The right number depends on length, scale and spacing.

As a guide:

• Two pendants suit islands around 1.8–2.4 metres

• Three pendants work well over longer benches

We often recommend fewer, well-proportioned fittings rather than crowding a space. Rhythm and breathing room matter just as much as coverage.

Proportion is everything.

A pendant should feel anchored within the architecture - not oversized for impact and not underscaled for safety. Diameter is important, but so is visual weight, material and drop length.

When in doubt, step back and consider how the fitting will read in the full space, not just above the bench.

Most pendant lights can be dimmed when paired with a compatible dimmable bulb and suitable dimmer switch.

Dimming allows you to shift a space from task lighting to atmosphere. We recommend confirming compatibility before purchase and ensuring installation is completed by a registered electrician.

Yes. Pendants can work beautifully in bedrooms, particularly when used as bedside lighting or as a central statement.

Scale and light quality are key. Softer, diffused light often feels more appropriate than exposed glare in restful spaces.
