Handcrafted in the British countryside using hand-blown glass and hand-finished metalwork, Glow Lighting is now available exclusively at Social Light. This is lighting made to a standard that's increasingly rare.
Every piece is made to order. The glass is mouth-blown. The metalwork is finished by hand. Glow was founded with a commitment to honest materials and timeless form, and that commitment shows in the weight of each fitting, the consistency of the glass, and the way the light sits in a room once it's installed.
We chose to stock Glow because the collection fits the way Social Light thinks about lighting: considered, well-made, and designed to look right for a long time. Here's what you need to know about the brand and where it works best.
What Makes Glow Different
Made-to-order production is relatively uncommon in lighting at this price point. Most brands at a similar level are manufacturing at volume, which means tolerances are wider, finishes are less consistent, and the product you receive has less individual character.
Glow works differently. Each piece is produced specifically for the order, which allows for the kind of hand-finishing that would be impractical in batch manufacturing. The result is lighting with genuine craft behind it.
- Hand-blown glass, individually formed, with the subtle variation that comes from that process
- Hand-finished metalwork in a range of classic finishes
- Made to order in the UK, available in New Zealand through Social Light
- Ribbed glass, elegant silhouettes and refined detailing throughout the collection
Colour Options
Select pieces including the Freida and Wanda pendants are available in up to 12 glass colours. These are not bold statement colours. They are subtle, considered tones that add individuality without overworking a space.
If you're working with a neutral palette and want something that adds character without becoming the focal point, the softer Glow colour options are worth considering. Smoke and Teal in particular work well alongside the natural stone and timber tones common in NZ renovations.
Where Glow Works in a NZ Home
The collection spans wall lights and pendants, which means it's versatile enough to work across multiple rooms in the same project. The silhouettes are familiar without being predictable, and the styling sits comfortably in a range of NZ home types.
| Space | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Living room | Pendants and wall sconces that add warmth and depth without competing with the architecture |
| Bedroom | Bedside wall lights with a quiet, considered presence that suits intimate spaces |
| Hallway | Wall lights that bring character to transitional spaces without overwhelming them |
| Kitchen bench | Pendants that work well in pairs or threes, particularly in coastal or classic villa settings |
| Classic villa | The ribbed glass and traditional forms complement heritage architecture naturally |
| Coastal retreat | Clean silhouettes and neutral or coloured glass that suits relaxed, natural interiors |
Why We Chose to Stock Glow
We're selective about the brands we bring into the Social Light collection. The criteria are consistent: design integrity, material quality, and fittings that will look right in NZ homes for a long time without needing to be replaced when the next trend arrives.
Glow met all of those criteria. The made-to-order model reflects the same philosophy we apply to our own Capsühl Linear range: that better things take a little more time, and that time is worth it. The collection is versatile enough to work across a wide range of project types, and the hand-finishing gives each piece a quality that's apparent the moment you see it in person.
